A Church of God pastor in Alabama was struck by lightning when leaving church on Sunday.

Pastor Ricky Adams says he was about to lock the door when lighting struck nearby, traveled through the ground and shocked him.

“The Lord had his hand on me,” Adams says.

Argo Area Volunteer Fire Department Chief Terry Pickett said Adams was alert and talking when first responders arrived, an NBC affiliate reports.

The pastor was not seriously injured and did not need to go to the hospital.
