Post-Election, Former Legislator Calls Christians to Return to God’s Word
Many people of faith are disappointed and some are even reeling from the re-election of the president to a second term in office. As Christians particularly consider what the president’s re-election will mean to them personally over the next four years and how to best move forward, there is a light on the lampstand shining God’s truth: the Pennsylvania Pastors’ Network and its president, Sam Rohrer.
Since the outcome of the election became final, Rohrer has been discussing the implications of this election on our culture and what the church must do in order to impact the rising generation.
“Based on exit polling and other data, we see clearly that 18- to 29-year-olds are in large part abandoning absolute truth based on the Bible that their parents and grandparents believed in and shifting their opinions and worldview to align with moral relativism and whatever ‘feels right’ based on the popular culture,” commented Rohrer, a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
“Unfortunately, Christians recognize that God clearly states that nations who seek His face and obey His Word will prosper in their land, but those who abandon biblical truth will flounder,” he added. “We see this playing out in our society today. At the PPN, we’re calling on pastors to more boldly and vigorously preach the whole counsel of God in a way that makes Christianity relevant to the rising generation.”
The PPN is urging pastors to continue on with the biblical command to preach about culturally relevant topics, such as life, marriage, family and finances. If Christians are to follow God’s Word, they must first learn and understand it, and pastors are the critical link to carry God’s Word forward to the next generation.
“The root problems in our society didn’t originally come from Washington, but from within our own homes and families,” said Rohrer. “Christians must make it a priority to live out God’s Word in every aspect of life, practicing God’s will in finances, family and in how we treat others. By starting in homes and families, we can push this revival forward, one family and community at a time. And as we begin to change families and communities, so too will the legislators and politicians that we choose to send to Washington change.”
To assist in this effort, the PPN will continue its monthly Pulpit Sunday initiative beyond the election, urging pastors to continue preaching morally relevant sermons that teach people what God expects of His people in everyday life. The PPN website continues to offer a wealth of resources to pastors, from sermon notes to corporate prayers for our nation, to resources for laypeople about everything from preparation to finances.
The Pennsylvania Pastors’ Network is a group of biblically faithful clergy and church liaisons whose objective is to build a permanent infrastructure of like-minded clergy who affirm the authority of Scripture; take seriously Jesus’ command to be the “salt and light” to the culture; encourage informed Christian thinking about contemporary social issues; examine public policy issues without politicizing their pulpits; and engage their congregations in taking part in our political process on a non-partisan basis.
