Right now hospitals across the country are facing an extreme number of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Inflection (RSV) cases. Following the isolation that ensued from the pandemic, children had little to know socialization to build up their immune systems.

With schools back in session kids are returning to their normal lives and are catching illnesses. “Those respiratory viruses have been on a hiatus because kids have been somewhat isolated and have returned to normal school,” epidemiologist Dr. John Brownstein told ABC News.

Every year, 58,000-80,000 children younger than five years old are hospitalized with RSV according to CDC data. A record number of hospitals across the United States are already filling up with severely ill kids and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says 77% of all pediatric hospital beds are already currently occupied.

The respiratory virus can appear as the common cold with mild symptoms that go away in a week or two, but for young children and elderly over 65, RSV can be very dangerous.

The virus is dangerous for young children because it causes inflammation in the throat making it difficult for them to breathe through their small airways. Other symptoms include, lethargy, low oxygen levels and congestion.

The spread of RSV started much earlier this year and is continuing to ramp up with the official start of winter still over a month away. “RSV cases are hitting at a time when we are already dealing with COVID, the flu and the return of enterovirus D68,” Dr. Elizabeth Murray, a pediatric emergency physician told TODAY.

Canadian parents whose children are catching respiratory viruses are also facing the countrywide shortage in children’s pain and fever medicine. One pharmacist and mother took to twitter to share her concerns. Kristen Watt says, “This is like Armageddon on the ground. No fever reducers, no antibiotics. How does one parent provide healthcare in this climate?”

The Daily Hive reported that Canada is waiving their bilingual labelling requirements in order to resupply the children’s pain relief medicine in pharmacies across the country. Hospitals will receive the medicine first before it will be available for over-the-counter purchases.

When you take a look at all that is going in the world there is no shortage of things to be afraid. The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control.” God also tells us in Joshua 1:9, “Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

God’s Word is filled with numerous accounts of supernatural protection and you can pray for that same protection over yourself and your family. Pray that in the time of trouble that God will hide you and your children under His pavilion.

Psalm 27:13-14 says, “I believe I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be strong, and may your heart be stout; wait on the Lord.” {eoa}
