Puerto Rico Pro-Family Movement Calls for Mass Gathering at San Juan Capitol

Thousands of Puerto Ricans, religious and non-religious, will convene in front of the north stairs of the San Juan Capitol on Monday, Feb. 18, at 10:00 a.m. to reflect the voice of the majority and advance a pro-family agenda that reconciles conviction with compassion.

The voice of the majority in Puerto Rico is in favor of the family as God created it between a man and a woman. People across the board—men and women from all walks of life, from Catholic churches, Independent churches, Pentecostal and Seventh Day Adventist churches and non-religious entities—will be uniting at their Capitol make their voice known and to enforce the value of the family. This gathering is not designed to be a protest, it will not rail against any specific group, against the current government, or against the governor.

“This demonstration will clarify the feelings of the majority in Puerto Rico, that defend the family as God created it, and that has served efficiently our society for centuries,” says William Hernandez, worldwide vice president of Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal, M.I., and National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) Puerto Rico regional vice president and board member.

The nation’s largest Christian Hispanic organization, the NHCLC, is the Hispanic Evangelical Association, unifying, serving and representing millions in the Hispanic born-again community—including Puerto Rico—via 40,118 member churches. The group seeks to extend the Christian message by promoting family and life, compassion evangelism, stewardship, justice, education and youth. Puerto Rico is represented in the NHCLC via the Fraternity of Pentecostal Pastors (FRAPE), which includes 18 denominations and more than 200,000 people.

“Our core Judeo-Christian values are not negotiable,” Israel Bermudez, Chief Financial Officer and executive board member of the NHCLC, said in support of the Puerto Rican constituents. “It is well said ‘if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything’. This pro-family movement affects positively our island, our families and, above all, the future generations.”
