Romney Plans Obama Attack in First Campaign Speech

It’s official. Mitt Romney is running for president on the Republican ticket.

The former Massachusetts governor—and active Mormon—is making his second run at the White House. Romney will kick off his campaign in New Hampshire as he works to win the Republican party nomination for the 2012 election.

Romney plans to come out hard against what he calls “the Obama economy.” His blog suggests that “Barack Obama has failed America.”

As Romney sees it, when Obama took office, he made the recession last longer. He points to the more than 16 million Americans that are out of work or have quit looking and the millions of others who are underemployed. He also points to unemployment rates about 8 percent despite the controversial stimulus package.

“A few years ago, Americans did something that was, actually, very much the sort of thing Americans like to do: We gave someone new a chance to lead, someone we hadn’t known for very long, who didn’t have much of a record but promised to lead us to a better place,” Romney will tell listeners to his first campaign speech, which was partially released by his campaign.

“At the time, we didn’t know what sort of a president he would make. … Now, in the third year of his four-year term, we have more than promises and slogans to go by. Barack Obama has failed America.”

Would you vote for a Mormon presidential candidate?
