The teenage grandson of worship leader Ron Kenoly died early Sunday morning after collapsing on a lawn in an Elk Grove, Calif., neighborhood. The cause of death remains unclear.

Elk Grove police said Ronald Tre Kenoly, 14, was walking home from a party when he was confronted and attacked by two unidentified people. Witnesses said the attackers fled after Tre fell onto the lawn at about 12:19 a.m. The teen was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Sacramento County coroner’s office said there were no visible signs of injury on Tre’s body, CBS 13 reported. On Tuesday they were waiting for toxicology results to determine the cause of death. Although Tre suffered from asthma, the coroner’s office said asthma was not a major factor in his death.

Police believe there were several witnesses to the altercation and are asking for their assistance in identifying the attackers.

Tre was the son of Kenoly’s second son, Ronald “Bingo” Kenoly Jr., who is a worship leader in Orlando, Fla. Tre, one of Ron Kenoly’s 13 grandchildren, had been living temporarily with his mother in Sacramento.

“Everyone that knew Tre loved him,” Ron Kenoly said. “He was thoughtful, loving, kind, a genuine pleasure to be around, funny, witty and most of all he was born- again and always eager to share his faith and relationship with Jesus with others.”

A viewing will be held Thursday at Harvest Church of Elk Grove. A funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the same location.
