Steve Riggle Calls for Support of Pro-Family Bill Amid Liberal Demonization

Dr. Steve Riggle, Senior Pastor of Houston’s Grace Community Church and president of the Grace International ministry, has issued an urgent call-to-arms for believers.

Riggle believes that a bill recently introduced in the Texas Senate would help avoid controversial unilateral moves like the widely decried policies enacted by Houston Mayor Annise Parker last fall. However, the bill’s opponents have engaged in a campaign of demonizing its supporters, and it is in danger of dying in committee as a result.

In an effort to make the voices of those in support of the bill be heard over those who would demonize its senatorial supporters into inaction, Riggle is calling on all believers to make their voices heard.

The full text of his plea follows:

A VERY IMPORTANT REQUEST

Key GOP leaders in both chambers of the Texas legislature are reacting in fear over being demonized by the media and Texas Association of Businesses campaign of deception rather than standing for basic pro-family principles.

SB 1155 is a bill that would prohibit political subdivisions (cities, counties, etc.) from adding categories of non-discrimination protections that do not exist in state non-discrimination statutes (e.g. sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, etc.). It would nullify that part of the existing ordinances (San Antonio, Houston, Plano, Dallas County, etc.) and avoid a literal city-by-city battle across all 1019 incorporated cities and 254 counties in Texas (the bill language has been used in other states, vetted by ADF).

SB 1155 must be heard and voted out of Senate State Affairs by Thursday, May 14, or it is dead. Committee Chair Sen. Joan Huffman (R-Sugar Land) will not let that happen unless there is immediate and very visible pressure—Phone (512) 463-0117, email [email protected].

It is also very important to contact Lt. Governor Dan Patrick as he appointed Senator Huffman to this position. Ask him to request that Senator Huffman immediately schedule a hearing on SB 1155 and pass it on for a full vote of the Senate. Contact Lt. Governor Dan Patrick—phone 512-463-0001, email [email protected].

I am asking everyone to email or call immediately. This is very important. If this bill were a matter of Texas law, we would not have had the battle in Houston we have been fighting over Mayor Parker’s ERO.

Please pass this on to everyone you can. WE MUST RESPOND!

Steve Riggle
