U.S. Sailor Shoots, Kills 2 Before Taking Own Life at Pearl Harbor
Two people were killed when a U.S. Navy sailor opened fire at the Pearl Harbor military base in Hawaii. After injuring a third victim, the shooter killed himself.
The shooting occurred at 2:30 local time at the Pearl Harbor Naval shipyard three days before National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
The three victims were shipyard workers and civilian employees of the Defense Department. Authorities say they will not release the victims’ identities until their next of kin have been notified.
Officials do not yet know the motive for the shooting.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and everyone involved,” Rear Adm. Robert Chadwick says. “I can say that we are mobilizing support services for naval shipyard personnel as well as everyone else who may be affected by this tragic event.”
