Victory Christian Center Argues Mother Can’t Claim Financial Damages for Rape

Share:

Victory Christian Center asked a judge to dismiss a civil lawsuit accusing employees of working to cover up the rape of a 13-year-old girl by a former church employee.

The victim’s mother is seeking $75,000 in damages. The Tulsa, Okla. megachurch claims the girl’s mother, who filed suit, is not entitled to financial damages under the law. The suit alleges the employees did not report the rape to authorities while it was conducting an internal investigation.

Five employees allegedly waited two weeks to report a 13-year-old girl’s rape claim and were arrested, along with the girl’s suspected attacker.

A then-Victory Christian Center employee, Chris Denman, raped the girl in a church stairwell. Denman was fired and the police were notified. He was charged with several felonies, including first-degree rape, forcible sodomy, lewd molestation and use of a computer to facilitate a sex crime.

A judge sentenced Denman to 55 years in prison. The ex-janitor pled guilty to multiple charges, including the admission of raping the girl.
