A 61-year-old pastor from Kitty Hawk Baptist Church died in a motorcycle crash Monday in Virginia, reported The Virginian-Pilot.

“Dare County first responders worked tirelessly to save Mr. [Donald] Teears, unfortunately he succumbed to the injuries he received from the crash at the scene,” Kitty Hawk police Chief Joel Johnson said in an email, per OBX Today.

Paul C. Muick, the 88-year-old responsible for colliding his vehicle with pastor Teears’ motorcycle, has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Teears served as chaplain for the Kitty Hawk Fire Department and Dare EMS. Muick only suffered minor injuries, and he was not impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash, according to The Coastland Times.

“The Kitty Hawk Police Department would like for everyone to keep the family of Mr. Teears in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Johnson said.

Teears leaves behind his wife of almost 40 years, Jill, along with their three sons.
