Why This Church Wants to Open Next to a Strip Club
When one Indiana church began to comb the neighborhoods for a larger building, it’s doubtful they expected this particular door to open.
Lafayette Community Church will soon move into a building right next to a strip club, according to NBC 4i.
“The time has come for us to settle down into our own space, and God has provided a doozy for us!” according to their church website.
“The more and more we talked about it, the more we felt like we could find ways to be a blessing to the people who come to this part of town,” lead pastor Jeff Mikels says.
The church is in the process of renovating the building and erected a fence between their sanctuary and the strip club.
Ed Gobel, co-owner of Filly’s Gentlemen’s Club, told NBC4i the working relationship between the two is built on mutual respect.
“It’s a wonderful thing because it’s the fact that we’re all sharing together because we want to all prosper,” Gobel said.
The church has met in several locations so far, moving as the congregation expands.
According to their website, they’ve met in a handful of schools and even a hotel.
