Could conservatism come back to the Catholic Church?

Pope Francis was perhaps the most controversial pope in history. From his discussions on changing the Lord’s Prayer, to endorsing all religions as a way to God and many other political and religious statements, the Catholic Church was shaken for years by Francis’ remarks.

With the impending search for the next pope, the question is: will the Catholic Church pivot to a more conservative choice?

As The Telegraph reported, Sarah stays on the conservative end of matters such as same-sex marriage, gender ideology and Western values. While his chances of becoming the next pope are low, a video from X of Sarah talking about cultural issues and faith has grabbed him some extra attention.

“You know, the biggest worry is that Europe has lost the sense of its origins. It has lost its roots,” Sarah says in the video. “Yet, a tree without roots, it dies. And I’m afraid the West is dying.”

If Cardinal Robert Sarah were to rise to the papacy, it could mark a dramatic shift back to the roots of biblical truth and moral clarity—not just for the Catholic Church, but as a signal to a world adrift in cultural confusion in recent years. Sarah’s warnings about the West’s spiritual decay echo what many Christians already feel: that we’ve lost our moral compass, traded truth for tolerance and forgotten the foundations of our faith.

Whether or not Cardinal Sarah becomes pope, the hunger for holy leadership is undeniable. For when the church rises in boldness and conviction, it becomes the light the darkening world needs.
