A Weaponized FBI Now Turns Its Attention to Israel

Since Joe Biden took over as president from Donald Trump, his administration has put into motion the unravelling of his predecessor’s policies.

Unfortunately, that also means the Biden administration has also taken an aggressive, anti-Israel stance that has permeated the Democratic Party.

With anti-Semitic rhetoric spewing from members of Congress such as Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Israel will find few allies within the administration.

This sentiment has now manifested in a near-unprecedented fashion as the FBI launches an investigation into the death of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

Akleh was killed by a stray bullet in a firefight between Israeli forces and suspected terrorists in Israel last May, while covering the military operation.

This has led to wild speculation from Arab and American media outlets that Akleh was in fact targeted by IDF forces, yet there is no evidence to support the claim that she was specifically targeted.

As reported by Israel’s Channel 14 News, Jerusalem officials have confirmed the United States Department of Justice informed Israel’s Justice Ministry about the opening of the investigation.

The Times of Israel reported, “the US decision represents an about-face after the Biden administration insisted for months that it would not be opening its own investigation, instead relying on probes conducted by the Israeli and Palestinian authorities.”

Bristling at this decision, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said Israel will not cooperate with the United States probe and called the investigation from a foreign power, “a mistake.”

“The IDF has conducted a professional, independent investigation, which was presented to American officials with whom the details were shared,” Gantz said. “I have delivered a message to U.S. representatives that we stand by the IDF’s soldiers, that we will not cooperate with an external investigation, and will not enable intervention to internal investigations.”

In contrast to the Biden administration’s previous statements about not opening an investigation, Democratic politicians in Congress have been calling for an investigation to be opened for months.

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) accused Israel of having “a history of investigations of shootings by IDF soldiers that rarely result in accountability,” and challenged the investigation that Israel conducted claiming, “Unfortunately, there has been no independent, credible investigation.”

The hostility toward Israel showcased itself when nearly half of the Democrats in the Senate signed a letter calling into question the validity of Israel’s report. The letter even goes so far as to suggest that Akleh was specifically targeted because she was a journalist.

There is a major spiritual element to the Biden administration’s handling of relations with the Israeli government as well.

While the Trump administration declared its support for Israel, its people and the special place that the people of Israel have with the Lord, the Biden administration holds no such allegiance.

The Lord promised to Abraham in Genesis 12 verse 3, “I will bless them who bless you and curse him who curses you, and in you all families of the earth will be blessed.” And that promise is still alive today, as believers can see how the Lord has restored and blessed the nation of Israel.

The lack of support and trust between the current administration and Israel can lead down a dark road for America.

To disagree with an action with Israel and bring it their attention in a diplomatic and friendly manner as allies is one thing. But backtracking on a public statement by a presidential administration and launch a surprise investigation against a foreign nation is not how allies treat one another. It is how nations who hold animosity against one another act.

As anti-Semitism is on the rise and anti-Israeli sentiment persists in the halls of Congress, Christians must take a stand for Israel. To stand against the nation of Israel is to stand against the Lord, as lies and propaganda against them are prevalent in the international media, terrorists attack its sovereign borders and organizations like the UN constantly attack them for defending their right to exist. {eoa}
