France Adds Right to Abortion to Their Constitution
France has become the first nation in the world to add the right to abortion in their constitution.
The vote was largely backed by MPs and senators with a vote of 780 against 72, according to Reuters.
After the vote passed, the Eiffel Tower was lit up with “#MyBodyMyChoice.”
Part of the reason why this amendment was added goes back to the overturning of Roe v. Wade here in America back in 2022.
As the Associated Press reported, this amendment was added for the “freedom of women to have recourse to an abortion, which is guaranteed.” This follows Macron’s promise to French citizens that abortion rights would not be rolled back in France the way it was in the United States.
The French Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, spoke to lawmakers saying, “We have a moral debt to women.”
Abortion is largely accepted by the citizens of France with prior surveys showing more than 80% of people in favor of abortion rights. Female legislators and abortion rights activists cheered over the final vote.

This news comes at a time when abortion continues to be a hot topic subject matter. Recently, pop star Olivia Rodrigo has decided to give part of her concert proceeds to different abortion providers, including one known as the ‘Lilith’ fund.
Abortion is one of the prime examples of something celebrated by the world that God has decidedly prohibited. He calls His children “fearfully and wonderfully made” and Scripture is very clear about not sacrificing up children for the sake of pleasing pagan gods.
Leviticus 18:21 says, “You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.”
While most people today wouldn’t consider their abortion to be a sacrifice to a pagan god, convenience, self-centeredness and pride are all idols that unborn children are being aborted for. They are the things that women are choosing instead of the precious life that God has granted them to be stewards over.
Instead of teaching women to rid of their unborn children, perhaps reaching out to them with compassion and resources to take care of their child or providing them help to find a loving home for that child is what our society actually needs. {eoa}
