How the Indian Church Is Battling Persecution With Increased Calls for Revival
India cracked the top 10 on the World Watch List this year, due in large part to the increased presence of radical Hindu extremism.
Though India once flourished with multiple religions, today’s ruling party has often inspired Hindu radicals to attack Christians through religious cleansing. The violence against believers in Christ continues to escalate as ruling officials manipulate laws to challenge religions other than their own.
“Even if we go through the legal system, it’s difficult to get proper justice,” says Sam Kumar, leader of the India Center for Revival.
The increased persecution has paved a way for a deeper press into revival.
“We mainly depend on the Lord and we pray. We ask the Lord to help us so that the churches are able to come together through this process,” Kumar says. “The denominational barriers are going down, and there’s corporate unity. There are many prayer movements that are coming out.”
