Popular COGOP Minister Shot to Death in His Church
A Church of God of Prophecy minister was gunned down at his own church in Jamaica, according to reports.
James Johnson, 29, was reportedly teaching an evening class at his church Thursday when a lone gunman approached and shot him several times.
“Today, we mourn the loss of one of our young ministers in Jamaica,” COGOP General Overseer Sam Clements says. “He was serving as a leadership development teacher in his local church, Minister Johnson served the Prime Minister of Jamaica in his professional role. I ask you to join us as we pray for his immediate family and local church family during this tragedy. I have often said that the Church of God of Prophecy is large enough to serve you, but it’s small enough to know you—so today, we hurt together as a family for this sudden tragic loss.”
Johnson served as the public relations officer for the church.
Johnson tweeted a statement last month that could be interpreted as prophetic.
Even as I fight to stay alive I’m reminded that there is hope in the Lord. If ever I prematurely leave my heart is at peace and I know I’m going to a better place. I’m of the view I’ve fulfilled my purpose.
