How the Coronavirus Could Keep Trump From Winning in 2020
It seems like everyone is talking about how the coronavirus is causing the economy to tank. In my book God, Trump and the 2020 Election, I cite eight different things that could cause Donald Trump to lose the 2020 election. One of them was an economic collapse. Is that what’s happening now?
After all, before the coronavirus pandemic started, the economy under Trump has been booming. In fact, one of Trump’s greatest accomplishments in his first two and a half years in office has been turning on the U.S. economic engine.
The growing economy is clearly an area of strength for Trump as he faces reelection. His “America first” economic policies that helped revive flagging industries, increase wages and bring a stock market boom will go a long way in attracting working-class voters from the Midwest, who have a history of supporting Democrats because they claim to be pro-labor.
Now we’re seeing Democrats doing everything they can to impede Trump’s reelection, including the Mueller investigation and the impeachment. If you remember, the Democrats were claiming that Trump was going to start World War III in the Middle East.
Of course, that died down. But now the latest hysteria is the coronavirus, also called COVID-19. The virus originally broke out in China and eventually started spreading into various countries. So far, it has killed over 4,300 people and infected around 118,000.
Yet around 98% of the people who get the coronavirus recover. It’s mostly dangerous for the elderly and those with underlying health issues. When put into perspective, it’s clear that the coronavirus is nothing more than a serious flu, which, depending on the year, can be more or less severe. The flu kills at least 12,000 people in the U.S. each year, according to the CDC. And between 2017-2018, it killed 61,000 people.
So far, the CDC reports that in the U.S., we have 938 cases and 29 deaths from the coronavirus. And people are panicking. The stock market crashed. Church services and large conferences are being canceled. Why? Much of it has to do with the media.
If the media continues to stir up hysteria, causing the stock market to plummet even further, we could have a major economic downturn. And as I said earlier, this is one of the things that could keep Trump from winning in 2020. After all, the nation’s economic condition is especially significant for incumbent presidents.
Only two presidential incumbents in the last 50 years have failed to secure a second term (Jimmy Carter in 1980 and George H.W. Bush in 1992). Since history shows incumbents do well even when their first elections and terms were contentious, many believe these two exceptions were caused by the tough economic times the country was facing during their campaigns.
Trump’s current campaign dependency on his economic successes, and the rise in the stock market is a perfect setup for the central bankers and international financiers to stage an economic collapse just before the election in 2020. A similar economic downturn in September and October of 2008 propelled Barack Obama to victory in his first presidential run.
So the question is, how will Christian voters respond? Will we give in to the media hysteria and feed the economic downturn? Or will we stand in faith and pray for divine intervention?
Last night, Kenneth Copeland encouraged believers to stop giving in to the spirit of fear as news of the coronavirus pandemic spreads.
“Who is the tormenter? It’s the devil,” he said. “People are so tormented by this coronavirus that they’re going out and buying up everything in sight. People do crazy things when they live in fear. But I tell you, you’re just asking for the virus and sickness when you choose to live in fear, whether it’s the coronavirus or losing your job or anything else. You can be afraid of anything and bring it to yourself.
“We have shifted from spiritual thinking to carnal thinking. If you listen to people long enough, it will get through to you and control your life. If you’re afraid of something, it gets down in your spirit and controls your life. That is what has happened with this coronavirus.”
I hope believers across the nation take Copeland’s words to heart. To listen to more of my thoughts on the impact the coronavirus is having on the economy and Trump’s campaign, click here.
