Recognize the Spirit of the Antichrist and Conquer the Fear of Last-Days Deception

What does this spirit of the antichrist look like?

John writes in 1 John 2:18 (NIV): “Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come.”

Among those who have come are the Pharaohs, Nebuchadnezzar, Caesar and Hitler. We know from Revelation 13 that the final antichrist will be the beast. In fact, even now we deal daily with the spirit of the antichrist. Scripture tells us clearly what that looks like:

“[E]very spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world” (1 John 4:3).

“I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist” (2 John 1:7).

The spirit of the antichrist is not flashy or spectacular. It will deny that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. Christ means Messiah, God in man. They may say Jesus came but refuse to admit that Jesus is divine, denying He is God the Son and the creator of all things.

This spirit denies that Jesus paid for our sins, rose from the dead and will return in His Father’s glory.

Even though God has “a remnant” in all areas of life, such as government, science, medicine, education and media of every kind, we see that these areas are dominated by the spirit that rejects Jesus as risen from the dead.

We must agree with Paul, who says, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Cor. 4:4).

It is by knowing what the spirit of the antichrist looks like and sounds like and strives to appear as that will cause us to walk in great confidence as the days continue to grow darker. We will conquer any fear of deception when we know the truths, given to us in the Word of God, about this spirit.
