Will Venezuela Move Its Embassy to Jerusalem?
Venezuela’s self-declared leader, Juan Guaido said he will consider moving his county’s embassy to Jerusalem and is working to restore ties with Israel. As Venezuela was falling into the abyss under the socialist policies of President Nicolas Maduro, Guaido took the bold step declaring himself the leader of the formerly prosperous South American country.
“I am very happy to report that the process of stabilizing relations with Israel is at its height,” Guaido told Israel Hayom daily in an interview.
Venezuela broke ties with Israel after the 2009 war between Israel and Gaza and fostered ties with the Palestinians and Iran which contributed to an uncomfortable atmosphere in Venezuela for the nation’s Jews.
Guaido said a formal announcement on reestablishing ties and opening a new Venezuelan embassy in Israel would come “at the proper time.”
The United States, Canada, Israel and several other nations have recognized Guaido’s government. He declared himself Venezuela’s leader last month in a power struggle with President Nicolas Maduro.
