‘Washington Times’ Editor Says, ‘If Believers Don’t Act, We Will Lose Our Country’

The media is roundly criticized for its openly hostile attack on believers, but there is a steadily growing army of godly men and women who have invaded enemy territory and proudly and boldly carry the flag of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Cheryl Chumley works as an online editor at The Washington Times in Washington, D.C., but she sees her role as far more than that of a journalist. Instead, she serves as a witness for Christ in a space often bereft of such.

Her recent book is titled Socialists Don’t Sleep—Christians Must Rise or America Will Fail, outlining what Chumley sees as a dramatic and horrifying turn toward socialism that, unless recognized and stopped by believers, will end the American experience of freedom.

“For me this all began a few years ago when I began to realize in so many ways a slow socialist creep that was originally isolated and just here and there,” Chumley says. “Recently, it has sped up to the point that we as a nation, and believers in particular, are in grave danger because it is simply evil and wicked. This evil has spread through all parts of society and must be stopped, or America will fail.”

In her book, Chumley outlines the beginning of the move toward socialism, the current situation and the evil nature of the socialist, Marxist and communist worldview—heightened by the Biden regime currently in power—and a clear path for Christians to become involved.

“As believers we must be careful that we don’t escape into the world where we just pray and watch the world go by,” Chumley says. “We are called to be the salt of the earth, and that means becoming intimately involved in society so that we can effect change and put our faith into action. It is precisely the failure of this that has allowed our country to turn away from its foundation in the belief in the Lord Jesus Christ to a near-total socialist and ultimately communist state.”

Joseph Menslage, editor of the Katy Christian Magazine, reflects the pressure on Christian media, saying, “We feel it every day—those who stand for truth and the gospel of Jesus Christ can hardly make it in the marketplaces, and we need believers to stand up and support Christian media.”

It’s a reflection of a general trend seen by many, including the great Washington revivalist Dick Simmons.

Chumley was born into a family that was atheist and, until adulthood, was an atheist as well. In this way, her faith is especially precious.

“It was my husband—who kindly and lovingly was an example to me—who brought me to Christ,” Chumley says. “It was my background, growing up in an atheist family and working in the hardscrabble media business, that has really shown me the importance of personal faith in Jesus Christ and the absolute necessity of us as believers to take our communities back.”

Chumley asks readers to get the book, give it to friends and use it as a manual to get involved in their local communities, from school boards to local politics to running for office themselves and standing up to the evil that surrounds them.

“The meaning of Socialists Don’t Sleep comes from my study of various socialist, Marxist and communist groups ranging from antifa to the Democratic Socialists of America to Black Lives Matter and being stunned by their dedication and sacrifice compared to the near lack of it by believers,” she says. “The book is a clarion call that if we do not act, we will truly lose our country.”

A recent survey has found that in the Republican Party alone, approximately 200,000 of 400,000 local precinct official spots remain unfilled, reflecting Chumley’s simple point that unless we stand up as believers, America will fail.

Chumley asks for prayer as she stands up for Christ and in particular as she speaks out on the issues of the day, not only through her books, but also through her columns in The Washington Times, speaking throughout the country and commentary on various media.
