What the World Desperately Needs in This Global Crisis
Peter left us wise advice. He said, “Always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and fear” (1 Pet. 3:15).
Peter was saying, “You never know when a door will open for you to begin to talk with someone about Jesus. You may even be able to help them make the decision to follow Him.”
So, he urged us, “Be ready.”
What does that preparation look like? Do you have to have a speech memorized or carry some written materials with you at all times?
No! Of course not. That is not the way to touch people’s hearts.
The answer is to be yourself. God has made each of us a unique person. We’re described in Scripture as “clay jars” (2 Cor. 4:7-9). In ancient days those were a “dime a dozen,” easily cracked and broken. It is a humble picture.
All those pots were handmade, so they were shaped differently, had varying sizes, varying heights and so on. In the same way, each of us has a different personality and set of experiences that shape the way we tell the story of Jesus. And that is what we need most in order to be prepared. We need to be ourselves and offer as much as we know and understand to a needy world in a way that is natural for us. We need to share our own story of redemption. This world is especially hungry in this time of global crisis.
Paul said that in those clay jars we have “the treasure of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” Jesus. And that is whom we should share, along with our trust in the “surpassing power of God” (2 Cor. 4:7).
