Why Deliverance From Demons Doesn’t Have to Be Scary

I hear in the Spirit, “Why are you scared of something you don’t know anything about and have not experienced?” People shy away from the ministry of deliverance in fear of what it will look like.

Have you ever thought what your life will look like if you continue in the bondage you are experiencing? Don’t you desire freedom?

When we look at the ministry of deliverance and the Gospels, Jesus came to set the captives free. The captives mean you and me. We have all been bound at one time or another.

But what do we notice in other people more than ourselves? Most of the time it’s the joy and freedom they exude. We wish we could be like that. You can.

Jesus came to set at liberty those who were oppressed (Isa. 61). Oppression is when we aren’t living in the fullness of God and are held in bondage to things that hold us back and prevent us from being who we need to be and doing what we need to do.

Deliverance is closing the doors to our past and moving forward in our prophetic destiny. Deliverance doesn’t have to be a scary demon casting-out process; it can simply be removing the things that hinder our walk with Christ and evacuating and healing from emotions such as offense, hurt, anxiety and stress.

We don’t have to look back and relive our problem in order to move through the deliverance process. We do have to take a quick look back and see where we need to repent, renounce or forgive, but we don’t have to visualize the experience or trauma again. That is not how Jesus heals. We simply have to acknowledge where we have been wrong, be willing to be corrected and convicted by the Holy Spirit, and be willing to leave the past behind and move forward.

Moving forward can be difficult because we don’t want to forgive ourselves. Torturing ourselves with shame, guilt, blame, regret and self-condemnation can be our form of punishment for the sins we have committed or the wrongdoings we have instigated. The good news is that Jesus came to forgive and set you free! Sometimes, the freedom we need to receive most is from ourselves. Self-forgiveness can be hard, but if we don’t forgive ourselves it can be damaging to our souls.

For some of you, forgiving yourself can be scary because you don’t know what to do with all that pain and shame. You don’t know who you will become if you don’t carry the self-inflicted bondage or regret anymore.

It is what we don’t know about deliverance ministry that hurts us. Deliverance is as simple as forgiving ourselves, allowing another person to love on us and moving forward with our lives by closing the doors to our past. We judge deliverance because we see demonic manifestations, hear stories and watch paranormal movies. Deliverance manifests in many forms, and one of the easiest forms is forgiving yourself and experiencing self-deliverance.
