Why Principalities Are Raging in America Right Now

I was sickened this week as I sat in church only to quickly be disrupted of the news that came out Baton Rouge, Louisiana, regarding more police officers being gunned down.

Many have asked, “What is going on and where is it leading”?

Although I could quickly jump to the practical side of this situation and give you my personal opinions based on what has been brewing for years now and where the Bible hints that we are headed, instead I want to shift your focus away from what Satan wants us to focus on and put the microscope of the Word of God on this situation and expose the root cause of all this violence spreading across the nation in this hour.

The Apostle Paul tells us plainly in the book of Ephesians that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

So we can clearly see from this assessment that this battle taking place isn’t a battle between one race against another or one group against another. Of course to the natural man, it appears that we are on the verge of another “race war” or an agenda against Law Enforcement, but many are being used unaware as puppets from Satan to carry out his agenda which I believe is to “divide and conquer” in this hour.  

Satan’s plan from the beginning has been to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10). So why would it be any different today? In fact, the Bible tells us that as we draw closer to the time of the end he will ramp up his attack because he knows his time is short.

Let’s break down these ranks mentioned in Ephesians 6:12. The first term Paul tells us that we fight against is “principalities”.

The term here in the Greek is a word meaning “angelic powers,” which in this passage is referring to those of the rebellion led by Lucifer. So Paul is telling the church that, in many regions, we actually come against “principalities” that have been assigned to that region by Satan himself. To give a good example of this I want to remind you of Daniel who encountered two of these angelic principalities in the Old Testament.

In the Daniel 10, Daniel is in Babylon pursuing a 21-day fast and encounters a visitation from a being who many scholars believe was the angel Gabriel who gave Daniel a message from the Lord:

“Then he said to me, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. For from the first day that you set your heart to understand this and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me for twenty-one days. So Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia” (Dan. 10:12-13)

Did you catch that? Daniel was engaged in a time of prayer and fasting awaiting the breakthrough but was hindered by “the prince of kingdom of Persia,” and Michael the Archangel, who was also himself one of the “Chief Princes” came to the aid of Daniel. These princes were not men of flesh and blood, but were angelic beings engaged in heavenly warfare. Thus these angels are eternal and if they were influential on the Earth then, they are today as well.

The next group is called “powers” which is translates to “the power of government authority or jurisdiction. This would be judges, mayors, governors, ambassadors, prime ministers or even the President of the United States. I once heard a man of God say that “Principalities work through personalities,” and what I want to emphasize here is that when we see wicked leaders in leadership in high places of authority, it is many times demonic forces empowering and controlling them to carry out the assignments of hell.

Then we see the term rulers of darkness, it simply means the puppet master pulling the strings behind scenes using demons to be released into the world to carry out what we are seeing on the news daily, and that is lawlessness and evil continually, just as in the days of Noah. The enemy is stirring up conflicts releasing strategies of racism, unrest and division in civilization.

The last group mentioned is “spiritual wickedness in high places.” The “spiritual powers” are not spiritual principles, but “spiritual hosts” of wickedness, and the phrase “in the heavenly places,” corresponds to “the power of the air” in Ephesians 2:2. In other words, if Satan is the “Prince of the Power of the Air,” he has much control over what is delivered over the airwaves such as what we hear and receive from the media, the internet, satellite, and radio. Is it any wonder that the truth seems so hard to find these days from the media? Or how most TV programs and movies are inundated with perversion and wickedness?

When we put all this together, we begin to see that all the violence and unrest that is taking place in the streets of America is ultimately orchestrated by Satan behind the scenes. Satan is planning it and men and women are performing his will unaware. Those who don’t have a relationship with Jesus are walking in darkness because of their hearts being filled with hate. Remember the prayer of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane when He was with his disciples? He prayed:

John 17:20-22: “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You. May they also be one in Us, that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory which You gave Me, that they may be one even as We are one.”

Here’s the bottom line. The enemy has been trying to keep us divided from the beginning of humanity with wars, divisions, divorce, strife and conflict. The enemy knows what a great threat we have when we come together and unite under the love of Christ and the kingdom of heaven. Don’t fall victim to this demonic assignment in this hour to manipulate you to hate your brother and sister of a different race or to rise against the authority that God Himself has put in place. Remember this war is not against flesh and blood!” {eoa}
