Phil Robertson Wants a Job With Donald Trump
Phil Robertson, patriarch of the “Duck Dynasty” family and once a surrogate to presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), now finds himself solidly in presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s corner.
During a recent interview with FOX News, he even offered to serve the businessman, should he win the presidency in November:
“I’ll make a valiant attempt behind the scenes, you understand, to sit down with Donald with a Bible in between us and I might can help him along with concepts like loving your enemies, loving your God, loving your neighbor. Even your enemies, forgive them and move on. I maybe can help him in that area. I can see it now: Trump wins and the camera’s panning and his spiritual adviser is me. Is America ready for it?”
Many former presidents have had pastors who served in similar roles. And sometimes, presidents have attracted unsolicited pastoral advice. That Trump could use some help in that area is readily available, and the former reality TV star might be more receptive to hearing some biblical advice from someone who has something in common with him.
Robertson was also equally eager to share his views on Republican Party unity in the FOX interview, saying the party needs to be loyal to Trump, now that he has effectively wrapped up the nomination. He added that even though he may not know the businessman’s record, he’s well-aware of the records of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, who continue to battle over the Democratic Party’s nomination.
“I know their record,” he said. “With Donald, I’m not quite sure since he doesn’t have a record in the political arena. However, I’m taking my chances not even knowing. I know the Clintons. I’m not sure about Trump, [but] I’m with Trump.”
