Senator Calls for Trump’s Assassination
State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City, Mo., called for President Donald Trump’s assassination in a now-deleted Facebook post.
In screenshots of the post, a commenter discusses a visit from Secret Service agents, and Chappelle-Nadal responded, “… I hope Trump is assassinated!”
Chappelle-Nadal says her response was posted in frustration to Trump’s comments over the Charlottesville riots and subsequent discussions.
“I didn’t mean what I put up. Absolutely not. I was very frustrated. Things have got to change,” Chappelle-Nadal tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
“I put that up on my personal Facebook and I should not have,” she says. “It was in response to the concerns that I am hearing from residents of St. Louis. I have deleted it, and it should have been deleted, but there is something way more important that we should be talking about.’
Other state politicians have called for her to resign.
“(C)alling for the assassination of the president is a federal crime,” says U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay, adding that Chappelle-Nadal is “an embarrassment to our state. … She should resign immediately.”
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports she is now under Secret Service investigation.
Christian author and radio host Eric Metaxas tweeted:
Can anything justify an elected official calling for the murder of our president? Should she be blamed if someone DOES take a shot at him? https://t.co/ORyqbA8gH7

Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz tweeted:
As a Christian, I have a COMMAND, to pray for our president. I do that. This in no way, means that I cannot vehemently disagree on matters.
