WikiLeaks: Hillary’s Inner Circle Lied to Key Allies About Emails
Even Hillary Clinton’s closest friends were apparently left in the dark about key details of her private email server setup while she served as secretary of state.
Even John Podesta—who now serves as Clinton’s campaign chairman—didn’t sound too happy about the situation in a March 2, 2015, email released by WikiLeaks on Tuesday. In it he tells his longtime aide, Neera Tanden, who now leads his Center for American Progress:
Speaking of transparency, our friends Kendall, Cheryl and Phillipe sure weren’t forthcoming on the facts here. Don’t be mean.
Tanden, apparently not a fan of several in Clinton’s inner circle, placed the blame with the Democratic presidential nominee’s State Department Chief of Staff, Cheryl Mills:
This is a Cheryl special. Know you love her, but this stuff is like her Achilles heal. Or Kryptonite. she just can’t say no to this [expletive]. Why didn’t they get this stuff out like 18 months ago? So crazy.
Later, she added:
I guess I know the answer. They wanted to get away with it.
