John Kasich Wants GOP Delegates to Remember He’s Still Around
As the Republican National Convention in Cleveland nears, Ohio Gov. John Kasich has a message for delegates who are pining for someone other than Donald Trump as the party’s presidential nominee.
He’s there, and he’s ready to go.
And even though he’s been soundly rejected by an overwhelming majority of Republican voters in nearly every state—he did win his home state, with a plurality of the vote—he wants you to pay attention to the polls. No, not the ones that show the gap between Trump and Democratic presidential nominee-in-waiting Hillary Clinton shrinking.
He wants you to look at NBC News’ latest poll, which shows Kasich is the only Republican who can defeat Clinton. In a recent email, his campaign staff artfully clipped the text of an NBC story to demonstrate that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee and a popular “white knight” candidate for many in the #NeverTrump faction, can’t win, while he would re-enter the race with an 8-point lead.
Perhaps this is his idea of “fighting all the way to the convention”? Either way, as the governor of the convention’s host city, he will get an opportunity to speak next week. It will be interesting to see what he has to say.
