Listen: Mike Huckabee’s #ImWithKim Rally Live at 3 p.m. Eastern Today
Mike Huckabee has spoken out about the incarceration of Rowan County clerk Kim Davis, the Kentucky official released on her sixth day in jail for refusing to participate in couples’ same-sex “marriages.” Now, he’s doing all he can to bring the focus of the nation upon the arrest, ordered by U.S. District Judge David Bunning.
Huckabee had been scheduled to hold an #ImWithKim Liberty Rally this afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern time outside the Carter County Detention Center in Grayson, Kentucky. That’s where Kim Davis was has been held for almost a week.
The AFR Talk Radio Network, a ministry of the American Family Association,is carrying it live this afternoon. You may also watch it live via local television here.
Davis has sent word through her attorney, Liberty Counsel litigation counsel Harry Mihet, that her spirits are high, and shewas dwelling on the Scriptures during her incarceration.
She wanted to share one passage with her supporters in particular: 2 Timothy 1:7-8, which says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and self-control. So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, His prisoner. But share in the sufferings of the gospel by the power of God.”
Huckabee said over the weekend that Davis is facing judicial tyranny: a court-imposed sentence for violating a court-imposed redefinition of marriage.
“Kim is asking the perfect question: ‘Under what law am I authorized to issue homosexual couples a marriage license?'” Huckabee said.
The former governor has repeatedly pointed out that, despite the Supreme Court ruling, there is no statute in Kentucky law authorizing same-sex “marriage,” and the forms Davis would ask couples to fill out specify that they join together a man and a woman.
“The Supreme Court cannot and did not make a law. They only made a ruling on a law,” Gov. Huckabee said. “Congress makes the laws.”
“Because Congress has made no law allowing for same sex marriage, Kim does not have the Constitutional authority to issue a marriage license to homosexual couples,” said Gov. Huckabee.
He’ll undoubtedly have more to say as the hours, and days, go on.
