Hillary Clinton’s Latest Coughing Fit Belies ‘No Health Issues’ Claims
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, in just her second campaign event of the week, brought concerns about her health back to the forefront during a speech in Cleveland.
From the onset of her speech, she began having a coughing fit. She again chalked it up to allergies, and tried to joke it off as being “allergic” to her Republican counterpart, Donald Trump. Then, after her speech, she tried to meet with her press pool on her plane to downplay the “conspiracy theories” about her health, but had another violent coughing fit.
Following the FBI’s release of some of its notes from its yearlong investigation of her private email server while secretary of state, which brought further questions about her health when she blamed a 2012 concussion on her inability to remember key facts, the coughing fits were ill-timed. It also sparked a new media controversy.
Hannah Fraser-Chanpong, a political reporter for CBS News who has been covering the Clinton campaign, tweeted that an inside source in the former secretary of state’s camp told her a number of staffers have resigned, and it appeared the candidate may be planning to drop out. Then, inexplicably, the tweet was deleted.
Neither Fraser-Chanpong nor CBS News has responded to requests for comment, which has only further fueled speculation.
Over the weekend, it was also reported that outgoing HLN host Dr. Drew Pinsky, who was among the first of many prominent physicians to say there was reason to be concerned about Clinton’s health, was likely terminated over his statements. According to those reports, CNN had pressured Pinsky to recant his comments, and when he refused to do so, his show was canceled.
