Special Counsel Robert Mueller

Mike Huckabee: Robert Mueller Needs to Fire Himself

Share:

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee became a pretty big fan of President Donald Trump during the late stages of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Some thought it was perhaps because the governor was angling for a job in the new administration. Others rightly observed that he genuinely recognized the president’s popular appeal and knew he could be convinced to do the right thing on matters of grave importance for our nation.

So, as the spirit of Leviathan continues its insidious attack on the president, through congressional Democrats and their accomplices in the liberal mainstream media, the governor has stuck up for him. Wednesday, in what was likely supposed to be a critique of CNN, however, he found himself writing what is perhaps one of the most cogent arguments for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to step down on his own.

Huckabee first pointed out:

CNN cut away from Senate testimony on possible bias and conflicts of interest by special counsel Robert Mueller, just as Lindsay Graham started asking Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about Mueller hiring three attorneys (actually four) who had donated to Democratic presidential candidates. One was even a lawyer for the Clinton Foundation. Her job: stonewalling Freedom of Information Act requests on info about Hillary’s private email server.

Then, he noted the heaping pressure on Mueller to be removed as special counsel in the investigation of alleged Russian hacking and collusion with the Trump 2016 campaign. Huckabee noted that after former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony last week, it’s become clear that “his old colleague, mentor and friend of 15 years”—who even helped him write his prepared statement for the Senate Intelligence Committee—is racked with conflicts of interest.

Huckabee wrote:

Legal experts have pointed out that this could mean possible violations of several federal laws including 28 CFR 45.2, “Disqualification arising from personal or political relationship;” and 28 USC Section 528, which requires the disqualification of any DOJ officer from an investigation if his or her participation “may result in a personal, financial, or political conflict of interest, or the appearance thereof.” A lot of pundits and Republicans are cautioning President Trump not to fire Mueller, but it’s now apparent that anything he produces will be tainted by the suspicion of bias toward Comey and against Trump—ironic, considering he’s supposed to be investigating collusion. In light of that, Mr. Mueller should do the right thing and fire himself.
