Poll Shows Opposing Gay ‘Marriage’…is a Huge Political Winner
The mainstream media, and political elites in both parties, decided long ago that campaigning in favor of preserving marriage is an electoral catastrophe. As usual, they refused to consult the American voters first. A recent Gallup poll showed, not only is preserving marriage not a political loser; it would actually give a candidate a significant advantage in the upcoming election. In the most recent Gallup poll on gay “marriage,” the media reported that a “record-high” number of Americans said they supported changing the institution of marriage – a conclusion that is debatable, at best. But the media buried two important facts:
- Only 26 percent of Americans say a politician “must share” their views on the issue; and
- Among that group, those who oppose legalizing same-sex “marriage” hold a 16-point lead over those who support it.
“Those who are opposed to gay marriage are a good deal more likely to say that a candidate’s stance on the issue can make or break whether that candidate receives their vote (37%) than those who are supportive of gay marriage (21%),” wrote Justin McCarthy for Gallup. “While pro-gay marriage voters are more likely to” demand their candidate foist a new understanding of marriage on the American people “than in the past, there is an even larger bloc of anti-gay marriage voters who could reject a candidate for espousing marriage equality.” (Emphasis added. Incidentally, McCarthy continually uses the terms “marriage equality” vs. “anti-gay”; no bias here!) According to the very Gallup poll that the Left is using to prove gay “marriage” is inevitable, campaigning against imposing gay “marriage” is actually a political winner. Which candidate will heed the call?
