President Trump Calls for Unity, Faith in Wake of Tragic Las Vegas Shooting
President Donald Trump gave a strong, somber, unifying and faith-focused speech Monday after the tragic shooting in Las Vegas that killed 58 people and wounded 500 more.
According to Fox News, President Trump called the Las Vegas attack an “act of pure evil.”
“To the families of the victims, we are praying for you, and we are here for you, and we ask God to help see you through this very dark period,” the president said from the White House yesterday. “Scripture teaches us the Lord is close to the broken- hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. We seek comfort in those words, for we know that God lives in the hearts of those who grieve.”
He also called upon “the bonds that unite us,” including faith, family and shared values, adding, “Our unity cannot be shattered by evil. Our bonds cannot be broken by violence. In times such as these, I know we are searching for some kind of meaning in the chaos, light in the darkness. The answers do not come easy.”
Some may have claimed the faith-based words were out of character for Trump, but award-winning journalist and author Stephen E. Strang is not surprised at all by the president’s sentiments.
Strang is the author of the soon-to-be-released book, God and Donald Trump, where he reveals the strategies, behind-the-scenes activity and profound voices that helped shape the dramatic events of the election and presidency thus far. Strang also shares background into Trump’s life that helps give insight to the man—and president—he is today.
And through a personal interview on the campaign trail, Strang brings to light the man behind the scenes, and the man with the same kind of sincerity seen in his most moving speeches.
“With Trump, what you see on television is not what you get behind the scenes,” Strang said. “There is a humility about him we don’t see in the liberal media sound bites. He is still a straight shooter, but his sincerity is far more striking than I would have expected. His answers to my questions revealed a confident, determined man who is truly committed to making America great again through principles that honor God rather than defy Him. After that interview, I understood that Donald Trump believes America remains a great country even though we’ve drifted away from the clear vision of the founders. He possesses an undeniable faith in America, and I realized that a big reason for that is his lifelong faith in God.”
Set for release on Nov. 7, almost a year to the day from the presidential election, God and Donald Trump also takes an incisive look at the factors that drove the largest number of conservative and evangelical voters ever recorded to the polls.
