President Trump Urges Action on Health Care
In his weekly video address on Friday, President Donald Trump told two of the many horror stories of Americans deeply impacted by the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
Michael and Tammy Kushman of Wisconsin were forced onto the Obamacare exchange in 2015, losing the plan they were promised they could keep, and losing the physician they were promised they could continue to use. Meanwhile their premiums soared by more than 120 percent, and today they spend one-fourth of their income on monthly health insurance premiums.
Also in Wisconsin, Robert and Sarah Stoll saw their premiums under Obamacare nearly double, forcing Sarah out of retirement to earn more money, but this new income made them ineligible for the tax credits they had been receiving. They were forced to repay thousands of dollars to the federal government.
The president blamed Democrats for making the mess, but urged them to join Republicans in Congress to fix it.
“As families across the nation continue to suffer under this law, I only hope that Democrats in Congress will have the political courage to help fix what we know to be a catastrophic situation—a total disaster—that they have created,” he said. “To be part of the solution, instead of obstructing—always obstructing—change, blocking reform, and doubling-down on Obamacare’s failure.
“But no matter what, my administration will never stop fighting for you—and for the health care system that you deserve. We’ll get it done. Even if we don’t have any help from the Democrats, we’ll get it done.”
