Mike Huckabee Pledges to ‘Kill Common Core’
To say that Mike Huckabee supports or has supported Common Core is like saying that I am a liberal Democrat Congressman from California. Yes, there is a Democrat Congressman from California named Brad Sherman, but he and I are two totally different people with very different political views. We are alike in that we both have the same name and we both live in America, but that’s about it when it comes to politics. Likewise, Mike Huckabee has never supported the federal Common Core that we have today. It is a totally different “animal” with a totally different purpose than the Common Core that Gov. Huckabee supported when it was local/state-based, voluntary, and involved only two subjects. Today’s Common Core is about a political agenda, not high standards for education. The federal Common Core we have today and what Mike Huckabee supported are alike only in that they share the same name and they both live in the realm of education. In his attempt to make the point that standards are important, it may have seemed that Gov. Huckabee was defending Common Core, but I have listened carefully and he was not. How could anyone who advocates abolishing the federal Department of Education be a supporter of Common Core? If you do not agree with the original version of Common Core, then that is your right. But please do not say Mike Huckabee supports common core today or even that he has changed his position. That is not the case. And please do not say that I am a liberal Congressman from California.
I, Mike Huckabee, pledge allegiance to God, the Constitution, and the citizens of the United States:
