6 Reasons This Pastor is Supporting Mike Huckabee for President

Spiritual Revival As you  know, the presidential election season is well underway in Iowa, and as you also know, our nation is in trouble. I firmly believe that if America doesn’t have a spiritual revival, it won’t matter who gets elected president. I have met with several of the candidates and told some of them just that. Therefore, in choosing the candidate to support, I have been looking for those who also believe America must have a spiritual revival. This has been one of my key criteria in developing a short list from which to choose. Articulate & Biblical Besides believing we need a spiritual revival, my candidate had to have strong proven biblical positions on key issues (life, marriage, etc.). I was also looking for the candidate that is able to articulate these positions in a skilled and winsome way to the people, while also being skilled in dealing with a hostile press. His positions had to be deeply rooted in an unshakeable biblical worldview to stand against the pressures of leadership on the world stage. Humility, Prayer & Maturity God gives us a recipe for healing our land in 2 Chron 7:14 and the first two ingredients in that recipe are humility and prayer. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble and we cannot afford a prideful leader whom God resists! We need a president who is humble before God and will spend time in the White House on his knees. I think we all know that there is no perfect candidate – and that is why humility is so important!  As long as a person is humble before God, they can always make needed changes. We all deal with pride and ambition to some degree, but getting older causes a man to look at life differently. I am almost 61 years old and I have 8 grandchildren. Though I still feel like I have a lot of miles left in me, and in many ways feel more prepared for life than ever, turning 60 made me think about the reality of someday leaving this world behind. With those thoughts in mind, life became less about me. Convictions grew stronger, not weaker. Love for others also deepened while concern about what others think about me faded. Mike Huckabee is turning 60 and he is the sage of my short list. No, age alone doesn’t produce humility, prayer and maturity, but I see these things in Mike Huckabee more than I did 8 years ago. I see the maturity of six decades and I don’t think there is anything that can be substituted for that. We have some very good candidates seeking the presidency, but for me, the recognized need for spiritual revival, a clear biblical worldview, strong communication skills, humility, prayer, maturity, plus his experience as a governor and extensive knowledge of the Middle East, all point to one candidate – Mike Huckabee. Recently, as I prayed for Governor Huckabee in my personal time, I felt impressed to pray for his words to be like a sharp knife, like a surgeon’s scalpel that would pierce even to the division of soul and spirit, that his words would cause people to discern the thoughts and intentions of their own hearts, causing them to realize that all things are open and laid bare before the eyes of God. We need a humble president with a fatherly heart who also possesses the skill of a surgeon to bring the piercing truth to the hearts of the people and healing to this land. This is the wisdom, maturity and Reagan-like qualities I see in Mike Huckabee. If there is anyone in the field of candidates who is most like Reagan, in my opinion it is Mike. Indeed, it might turn out that he is even better! As I close this letter, my plea to fellow Christians is this: Will you pray over the points I have made in this letter and see if God gives you a witness of agreement? With 15 or more candidates in the GOP field alone, heaven knows we need some agreement! If you agree, then join me in unifying behind a seasoned and humble man of God with executive experience who cares deeply and sincerely about this nation. Let’s tell our friends and neighbors and let’s caucus for Mike Huckabee in February. Let’s send him into the 2016 election as the winner of the Iowa Caucus with Godspeed. Sincerely, Pastor Brad Sherman (This letter represents my personal views as a citizen and does not represent any organization, church or ministry).
