WATCH: Choir Replaces ‘Jesus’ with ‘Hillary’ at Campaign Stop
At a campaign event this weekend, a female chorus replaced the sacred name of Jesus in a hymn with the name of Hillary Clinton.
The Clinton campaign invited an “alterative” female chorus known as Voices From the Heart to sing at her campaign stop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on Saturday, according to The Daily Caller. There, the group reworked the traditional “Negro spiritual” known as “Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind on Jesus)” to honor the subject of their devotion: the former first lady, U.S. senator, and Secretary of State.
Rather than sing the lyrics “Woke up this mornin’ with my mind stayin’ on Jesus,” the choir sang:
Woke up this mornin’ with my mind, stayin’ on Hillary
Woke up this mornin’ with my mind, stayin’ on Hillary
Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah!
In addition to being an act of sacrilege at an officially sanctioned campaign event, this is also an act of cultural imperialism. Hillary’s surrogates reappropriated a piece of African-American culture as part of her cult of personality.
It’s not the first time Hillary has latched onto – and demeaned – black Gospel music.
This is an act of tremendous insensitivity and arrogance, which demands an immediate apology from the candidate to believers, especially those in the minority community.
I’m including videos of both the sacrilegious video and the sacred original.
I think you’ll prefer both the lyrics and the vocals in the second.
