Ken Cuccinelli Backs This GOP Presidential Candidate
During his bid to win the Virginia gubernatorial race in 2013, Ken Cuccinelli had the support of a broad base of grassroots conservatives. The president of the Senate Conservatives Fund is now trying to build a broad coalition for another political candidate.
Late Friday afternoon, the former Virginia Attorney General announced he was backing U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for the Republican presidential nomination. He said Cruz has a “proven track record” for standing up for conservative values while fighting against Democrats and the “establishment agenda” in Washington.
“His leadership in the Senate has been invaluable to advancing our shared principles,” he said. “I am confident that he will take these same qualities with him to the White House.”
Cuccinelli himself has been a “tireless advocate” and “strong leader” in the fight to advance conservative principles, Cruz said in response to the endorsement. His campaign released the following statement from the candidate following this latest big-name endorsement:
“I am thrilled to have Ken’s support for president. He is smart, he’s principled and he’s fearless. That last characteristic in particular is a rare quality in elected life. Ken will be a huge asset to our campaign.”
