Why Did This Candidate Say ‘Obama Lied to Pope Francis’ (And the World)?

Share:

The whole world seems to be talking about Pope Francis’ visit to the United States. One of those is Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is accusing Barack Obama of a breaking one of the Ten Commandments in the papal presence.

Obama this morning said that all Americans must be free to live out their faith. “President Obama lied to Pope Francis,” said Gov. Jindal, a 2016 presidential hopeful.

“That’s the opposite of reality in America today, Mr. President,” Gov. Jindal, who is himself a convert to Roman Catholic Christianity, said. “We have Christians who are jailed for their closely held religious beliefs. We have Christians fined thousands of dollars by the government simply because they didn’t bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.”

“Meanwhile, liberals are spending their time excoriating Christian conservatives, demanding that they publicly profess their support for a theoretical Muslim president who doesn’t exist,” he said—a reference to Dr. Ben Carson’s comments that he would not “advocate” that the nation elect a Muslim president who believes in Sharia law.

“Here’s a reality check: Christians are Americans, too, with the same rights as everyone else,” Jindal said. “This president has not protected Christians and their constitutionally guaranteed religious freedom, and it’s time we have a president who will.”
