Fun Family-Friendly Netflix Film ‘Yes Day’ Portrays Sacrificial Love
Green, blue, red and orange water balloons—30,000 of them—launched with full force and without a stunt double. Jennifer Garner shares in an interview with CBN about the fun of filming such a scene for Yes Day, a newly released family-friendly comedy on Netflix.
In Yes Day, inspired by Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s children’s book, with an underlying theme of sacrificial love, parents must oblige their children’s wishes for one day.
The film is a personal one for Garner, who helped produce it, she tells CBN, noting that it reflects her own experiences as a mother—especially during quarantine.
In an interview with Kevin Frazier for ET Online, she says, “This has been such a hard year for moms. We have had to say ‘No, no, no.’ We’ve had to watch our kids be home, miss out on things. It is one thing to miss out on something as an adult, but to watch your kids miss something they have looked forward to or just how hard it has been to see them isolated and on Zoom every day … this is a breath of fresh air.”
But Yes Day isn’t just a movie; it’s something both Garner and co-star Edgar Ramirez practice in their own homes. The stars express the same observation, suggesting parents might be taken aback by how simple (and silly) their children’s requests often are. The questions are beautiful and revealing. Ramirez says that what they want often returns to time and focus. Children just want the attention of their parents, he says.
In fact, it was after an interview about Miracles From Heaven that Garner’s children asked her to take them to church. Now, “Yes day” is not the only family tradition in the Garner household. The following Sunday, the family went to church, and they’ve worshipped together ever since. Garner says she feels the same joy and delight about church on Sundays as she does “yes days.”
“It really just starts the whole week off right,” Garner says, and she misses “being in church physically, in person. I really miss that sense of community.”
