Jack Hibbs Issues Warning About ‘Going Too Far’ With Sin
Will God ever come to a point where He tells sinners “Enough is enough, I can’t go any further with you?” Jack Hibbs, lead pastor at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Chino Hills, California, says yes and cites many biblical precedents and a crucial portion of Scripture to back up his answer.
With the way things are going in this country, the evil and unrighteous path America is headed down, everyone must heed God’s Word in order to save themselves from God’s wrath. Romans 1:18: “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress truth through unrighteousness.”
“How does someone get to that point where God says, ‘I’m done’?” Hibbs asked in a recent sermon. “Romans 1:24-26 says that, ‘Therefore God gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies among themselves. They turned the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions.'”
Hibbs says Sodom and Gomorrah and Noah and the flood are only two such instances when God gave people up to their own desires and lusts. In both cases, many people were destroyed for “going too far.”
“When God gives you up, He doesn’t say ‘I don’t like you, I don’t like the way you look or the way you sound,'” Hibbs says. “The Word implies this. Think of going down a stairwell. God is with you all the way and then He says, ‘Don’t take another step, this is not good.’ What do people do? They take another step. He says to them, ‘Don’t go there. I’m speaking on behalf of every human being on earth by the Holy Spirit.’ Jesus says the Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin. But you keep taking another step.
“God is pleading with you not to do it. Then, He comes to a step and says, ‘I can’t go any further with you. This is as far down as I’m going.’ Didn’t God put up with so much at Sodom and Gomorrah? Didn’t He put up with so much when they sinned against Him in Judea and Israel? “Humanity without Christ in the 21st century says to Him, ‘I haven’t cared a thing about what You’ve said thus far. I’m still going down, see ya.’ And with that next step, you’ll never hear His voice again.”
A very sobering thought. Has the Holy Spirit convicted you of your sin today?
