In lieu of playing the regularly scheduled recording of the National Anthem during the morning announcements, the principal at Bates Elementary School in Louisville, Kentucky, allowed a member of the third grade class to sing.

Since that morning just a few days ago, the video Alecia Dunn shared on the school’s Twitter account has gone viral.

The young singer, D’Corey Johnson, grew up singing at his Kentucky church, and hopes to grow up to be a “triple threat” in performing.

“He’s so authentic and genuine. There’s nothing rehearsed about him,” Dunn said of her student. “There’s no stage child, it is just him. It’s almost like he’s this old soul.”

“I want my voice to reach other people, not just America,” the 9-year-old told Spectrum News. “I want it to just reach out to the whole world and stop this suicide and stop the killings and stop everything that’s going on in this world.”

Johnson has been tapped to sing the national anthem at an upcoming Tennessee Titans game, per a Good Morning America report and has also been asked to sing for Holy Cross, University of Louisville. {eoa}
