Liberal Host Claims ‘All Speech Is Not Free Speech’ In Epic Rant
Read time: 4 minutes 17 seconds
Americans have witnessed the erosion of their free speech and liberties over the years.
As the size of the federal government increased, so did its power. In the aftermath of increased oversight of the American people, an attitude developed among the rich, famous and powerful of the land.
The American people need to have their freedoms reigned in for the overall security of the country.
This devolving way of thinking has infected many within the media, who hold that they are the purveyors of truth and gatekeepers to accurate reporting of events.
These personalities believe that any facts, evidence or opinions contrary to their own, or threaten their standing and power, is misinformation and needs to be silenced.
With the recent purchase of the social media platform Twitter by Elon Musk, multitudes of left-wing journalists, celebrities and politicians have shrieked that free speech is under attack. When in reality, Musk just re-leveled the playing field.
In the aftermath of this transition of the “digital public square” where Musk wants all opinions to have a seat at the table, “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg verbalized the rarely spoken part of the elite’s belief system out loud to her audience.
Throughout her rant against Musk and bemoaning the fact that left-leaning accounts on Twitter are now held to the same standard as everyone else, she viciously attacked the free speech that has been a cornerstone of the American republic:
“They keep saying that it’s free speech … All speech is not free speech. Some speech is not okay free speech. So, everybody has to agree on that,” she exclaimed, before speaking in a mocking tone and saying: “But if people keep saying, ‘you’re hurting my free speech,’ it’s going to be a problem.”
Before the great American experiment began, the French philosopher Voltaire uttered the famous quote on free speech saying, “I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
It appears that many within the American media complex do not share this view of freedom as those who came before them.
The shuttering of ideas, religious freedoms and speech are the very reasons that many fled Europe during the founding of America in search of the freedoms Goldberg wants suppressed. Many from around the world still flock to America in hopes to find those same freedoms the Founding Fathers set forth in the Constitution.
These freedoms, given to humans by God, are reflective of the absolute freedom found in Jesus Christ.
Throughout the Bible, Christians find the Word of God extolling the virtues of freedom found within Christ in such passages as Galatians 5:1, “For freedom Christ freed us. Stand fast therefore and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”; 2 Corinthians 3:17, “Now the Lord is the Spirit. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”; and John 8:32, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
Goldberg is not alone in her derision of free speech. Many on the left have decried Twitter becoming a town square that allows various points of view to be shared. Fellow co-host of “The View” Sunny Hostin, who recently referred to women who vote Republican as ‘roaches voting for Raid,’ bemoaned taking part in a conversation that is outside of a left-leaning echo chamber:
“You’ve got this Elon Musk turning it into something that it was never intended to be. It’s going to be the public square. Well, I don’t want to be part of that public square, but I also don’t want to miss the valuable information that can be put on there.”
This was the mentality at Twitter prior to Musk’s takeover, but is still in place across platforms such as Facebook (Meta), YouTube and the mainstream media.
Yet the goalposts of free speech have moved significantly in the past few years, and Christian leaders are finding themselves de-platformed simply for sharing what the Bible says about particular topics.
Prior to Musk, Twitter would suspend or even ban any dissent from the pro-LGBTQ agenda, including saying the Bible teaches God made man and woman, and that’s it. Disagreeing that gender is a spectrum was viewed as “hate-speech” and was removed from the platform.
But this bitterness and hatred is foretold in the Bible. In Matthew 10:22, Jesus warns, “You will be hated by all men for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.”
The world will hate Christians, and the suppression of the gospel has only increased in America. How much longer until the powers that be declare that the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is declared “hate speech” and contrary to the values and beliefs of those within the government or controlling media? Will Christians still speak the truth of Jesus?{eoa}
