Internet Comedian Says He Is ‘Accidentally’ Becoming More Christian

Awaken JPOver the past three years, internet comedian JP Sears says he has found himself “getting accidentally” more Christian.

A man who formerly had a great deal of judgment against religion and Christianity, Sears says he was wrong, and he has definitely changed his mind about God and what our Lord and Savior has to offer.

And Sears is certainly making an impact. In addition to have more than 2.82 million subscribers on YouTube, he also has 1.1 million followers on Instagram, more than 342,000 followers on Twitter and more than 3 million followers on Facebook.

Jesus would be proud of such audience, especially for a man who shares the gospel not only with believers but with non-believers as well.

In this video, in which he offers no apologies for it not being comedic, Sears says he used to think that religion was “outdated” and wondered why others wouldn’t join him in becoming more “spiritual.”

Of course years ago, in Sears’ mind, spiritual meant something much different, and out of “spiritual arrogance” he was excluding what he called “some amazing traditional Christian values, beliefs of God and ways of connecting with God” that he now cherishes as a believer in Christ.

His words “becoming more Christian” have caused a stir among some believers, but his growth as a believer is certainly no accident. With his social media influence and his love for Jesus, God certainly has a plan for him to reach the masses with the gospel.

“One observation I’ve had, especially since the #plandemic, is that I’m becoming more and more Christian without intentionally trying,” says Sears, whose fans know him for his satirical videos in which he promotes conservative political views. “I wasn’t on a mission that, like, ‘hey, I want to become more Christian.’ It’s just been effortlessly happening for me.

“I don’t think I’m unique. I’ve talked to a lot of people who are telling me similar stories. So, I have asked the question, ‘why are people getting more Christian without even trying?'”

During the COVID pandemic, the 41-year-old Sears was outspoken in his views against face mask and vaccine mandates. That in itself helped him to exponentially grow his social media audience.

Sears says at one time “I used to have shame about saying the word ‘God.'” Instead, he would use words like ‘universe,’ ‘all-knowing’ and others he used to create for a higher being.

“I’m delighted to say that I know longer have that problem,” he says. “I actually have joy in saying, ‘God.'”

So what was it that changed Sears’ view about Jesus? He began to take notice, he said, that “the presence of evil and Satan and the evil that emanates from Satan has never been more obvious” than it is in our world today.

“Evil isn’t hiding anymore, especially in the last three years,” Sears says. “It’s coming at us through authoritarianism, movements, people, groups, companies. They are trying to invade your minds and invade your God-given free will.

“As that becomes more obvious, I think there’s a natural polarity that happens. If you’re not someone who is willing to do the devil’s bidding, if you’re not willing to propagate evil, then there’s a natural occurrence. When you are in the presence of evil, you polarize to the other extreme of God. The presence of evil makes you lean away, and what direction are you leaning toward? It had better be the direction of God.”

What He Now Believes

“I now look at traditional Christian values with a lot of respect and reverence,” Sears says. “I am integrating those into my life. I will make no claims that I’m the world’s best Christian, but I am looking at these Christian values and they make way more sense to me now than they used to. Christian values around faith in God, Christian values around family first.

“I now believe that the power of prayer is the most important thing that you and I can have. I believe prayer is powerful, and it brings about change because prayer brings God into a place where He is needed.”

Sears says he also believes that we are now in a time of intense spiritual warfare. It’s a daily fight between God and Satan for you and for your children.

But in the end, we know who wins.

“What’s on the line is me and you,” he says. … “Even though we see these things playing out at a physical level, what we’re seeing is symptoms of what is happening more a metaphysical level. God and Satan are at war for our souls and the souls of our children. What we are doing, our actions, our thoughts and words is determining which side of the spiritual warfare we’re fighting on.”

4 Things We Can Do to Bring More God into the World

March CM CoverSears says that we can join that fight by doing four simple things:

  • Very intentionally have faith in God. “God has a plan and our backs, and our job is to be the best servant we can to that plan,” he says.
  • Listen to God. “We’ve all got noise going on through our head, our own thoughts and outside noise. We need to be good listeners so we can be guided by God.”
  • Pray often. “Know when people are in need. Pray for yourself, your family and your circumstances. Pray for the world at large, even for the evil authoritarians.”
  • Live a life of service. “We have to be willing to abandon our own desires to be of service to others. True happiness, fulfillment and meaning in life absolutely requires us to be of service to a greater good for other people.”
