In a new video clip, music artist Lil Nas X says he’s entered into his ‘Christian era.’ But how true is his faith?

Lil Nas rose to fame with “Old Town Road” and became known for inappropriately dancing with Satan and for “666” shoes. So, if Nas really has found the true meaning of the gospel by repenting of his sins and entrusting his life with Christ, then that would be a huge win. However, there are still some serious points of concern when it comes to what Nas has to say about Christianity.

Nas, who previously claimed to be homosexual, wrote comments on Twitter implying that he would continue to engage in this type of lifestyle, saying that Christianity and the LBGTQ lifestyle “are not mutually exclusive.” Nas went even further describing why he believes many oppose his “Christian era.”

“Y’all see everything I do as a gimmick,” Nas wrote on X. “When in reality I’m just an artist expressing myself in different ways. Whether I’m a cowboy, gay, satanic, or now Christian, y’all find a problem! Y’all don’t police nobody else art like mine. Y’all hate me because I’m fun, cute and petite.”

This tweet in itself could be considered questionable about whether Nas is using Christianity as his next ticket to fame.

In his song, Nas sings, “Father stretch my hands / The lonely road seems to last the longest / Help me with my plans / everything seems to go to nowhere / Oh free me from worry and wanting pity / Free me from all this envy in me / I don’t want these feelings / I call on angels / I’m trying hard to face my pain, yeah / Give me hope when I feel, give me hope when I feel less.

From the lyrics, it does seem that Nas wants some help managing his struggles and inner emotional turmoil. Yet, from other comments on X it seems that if Nas’ faith is true, he still has much to learn about what it means to turn away from sin and cling to God’s plans and purposes instead of our own.

In a time when drag queen artist Flamy Grant rose to the top of the Christian charts and even attended the Dove Awards, it is critical that we are wary of the kinds of content we consume, making sure that what we ultimately are placing in our minds and our hearts is a reflection of God’s goodness, holiness and mercy. Right now, only time will tell if Lil Nas X’s heart has completely been changed by the gospel. {eoa}
