“I seriously have no words … I’m just so overwhelmed with gratitude,” Nix wrote on Facebook after learning she was moving on.
With 19 million votes cast, the Denton, Texas, native now heads home for a parade and live concert before the Idol finale on May 18. As reported by The Christian Post, Nix has consistently used her national platform to boldly highlight her Christian faith, no matter the criticism.
Christian Witness on a National Stage
Throughout her Idol journey, Nix hasn’t backed down from her convictions, performing worship anthems like Brandon Lake’s “Gratitude” and the faith-filled classic “Jesus Take the Wheel.” But she’s also faced backlash from some online critics questioning her Christian identity based on wardrobe or song choice.
“I had a comment that said, ‘She’s not a Christian anymore,’” she told former Idol winner Fantasia during a coaching session. “It devastated me.” Yet instead of shrinking back, Nix has remained confident in her calling: “To God be all the glory,” she declared. “The growth I’ve experienced — both personally and artistically — has been life-changing.”
Idol Judges and Audience Take Notice
From her emotional delivery of “Reflection” to her heartfelt tribute on Mother’s Day with “Like My Mother Does,” Nix continues to impress the judges. “You have poise and grace,” said Lionel Richie. “You make this song so emotional, so passionate.” Carrie Underwood added, “You just look like you belong exactly where you are.”
