The vandalized Jesus statue in downtown Charleston, South Carolina

Man Beheads Jesus Statue for Violating Ten Commandments

Jesus kept all of the Ten Commandments perfectly—but a statue of him didn’t, according to a South Carolina vandal.

Jeffrey Short, 38, has been charged with malicious injury to real property after allegedly lobbing the dead of at least one Jesus statue in Charleston with a sledgehammer.

His reason: “I think I used a sledgehammer to strike the statue about six or seven times, because the second or first commandment states to not make an image of a male or female to be on display to the public,” according to a report from WCSC.

Ironically, a case could be made that statues of Jesus Christ are “graven images” of deity, violating the second commandment (Exodus 20:4).

But Short’s claim that no statue can be erected of a male or female is nowhere to be found in the Decalogue.

Another vandalized marble statue of Jesus has been discovered in the area, depicting Jesus with a small child.

Local police are continuing their investigation.
