WATCH: ‘Chinese Jerusalem’ Emerging Despite Persecution
Wenzhou is known as the “Chinese Jerusalem” because of it’s growing number of Christians. The city has witnessed numerous violent confrontations between the Christian residents and the authorities sent to demolish their churches.
Up to 300 churches have had their crosses removed or had their churches demolished completely, according to the video.
“Wenzhou has been chosen for this crackdown because it’s at the forefront of an astonishing trend in modern, nominally atheist China,” the video says. “Despite ambivalence from the ruling Communist party toward organized religion in general — and Christianity in particular — China now has around 100 million Christians.
