Israelis Protest German Author on Holocaust Remembrance Day

Israelis hold placards with messages against German author Günter Grass outside the German embassy in Tel Aviv, following the sounding of a siren marking Israel’s annual day of Holocaust remembrance, Thursday. Israel declared the Nobel Prize-winning author “persona non grata” earlier this month over a poem in which the former SS soldier described the Jewish state as a threat to world peace.
