WATCH: I Had an Appointment to Die, but God Stepped in to Rescue Me
It was over a decade ago that I stood in the bathroom while my mom struggled to find the words to speak. “You’ll hate me,” she said. “I can’t tell you, because you’ll hate me.”
“I would never hate you,” I replied. The look in her eyes revealed she wasn’t convinced. I was in my early 20s, home for a visit from college and looking for answers. I certainly wasn’t pro-life at the time.
Only months before, a prophetic minister gave me a word that something special happened when I was born. When I asked my mom about it, she said: “I met an angel.”
After reassuring my mom I could handle hearing her heart, she opened up. She told me a secret she’d kept carefully hidden all my life. With great trepidation, she revealed I had an appointment to die. Before I was born she had gone to Mt. Sinai Hospital to abort me.
But God stepped in to rescue.
Looking back, I never would have imagined her story would compel me on a supernatural journey. My deliverance from death became a key to my destiny—an invitation from Heaven that demanded my life as an answer.
My decision to leave home and join the Justice House of Prayer D.C. and Bound4LIFE in Washington shaped me into an intercessor for the pre-born.
Last month, I joined several pro-life leaders in Selma, Alabama, including Dr. Alveda King, Will and Dehavilland Ford, Charmaine Yoest (of Americans United for Life), Dean Nelson (of Online for Life), Dr. Freda Bush and Corry Robinson.
My friend and mentor Catherine Davis, founder of the Restoration Project, brought us all together.
Davis led us to Selma to stand against the Central Alabama Women’s Clinic, believed to be doing more abortions than the monthly allowed for a non-registered abortion clinic.
The clinic primarily serves minority women, who are being targeted by the abortion industry. Pro-life leaders have called for the Alabama Department of Public Health to shut the clinic down or make it register as an abortion facility.
So what did we do? These pro-life forerunners came together for an intense prayer meeting, a march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and a rally to call attention to the clinic’s illegal activity.
My dear friends Natalie Brumfield and Lis Marshall, Bound4LIFE chapters leaders in Birmingham and Atlanta, played a significant part in this Spirit-led initiative.
Yet these were not the only gifted communicators present. Filmmakers Matt and Cara Hunter shot extensive footage for a mini-documentary titled Hear from Heaven, set to release this fall.
In the midst of prayers and insights from these diverse leaders, the film reveals my story—from rescue before birth, to becoming a pro-life activist—as a call to action on the issue of life.
Matt and Cara Hunter prayed for eight months before asking me to share my testimony. They are a young married team of intercessory filmmakers who feel a deep burden to declare the heart of God regarding the dignity of human life.
Knowing that film is one of the most powerful tools to declare God’s nature and reveal His heart, the Hunters founded Eyes of the Heart Films—a ministry whose mission is to produce films that open eyes to the beauty of Jesus.
As audiences travel with the Hunters to Selma, Alabama, the film becomes more than just my story. It’s an exposé of how women, particularly those in low-income minority communities, have been manipulated and harmed by the abortion industry.
More importantly, Hear from Heaven is a prayer from the heart of our nation—asking God to release justice for these women and for the unborn.
In the Oscar-winning movie Selma, we saw brave individuals marching for voting rights across the Pettus Bridge on the infamous day that became known as “Bloody Sunday.”
In Hear from Heaven, you’ll see black and white, young and old, march across that same bridge—believing for justice for those women and men injured (and children destroyed) through abortion. Join us in taking a stand for the greatest civil right of all: the right to life.
Through the recent undercover videos and investigations, the agenda of the abortion industry to target minorities is finally being exposed for all to see. Our response to these atrocities must first be awakening to an intercessory cry—hearing the tender heart of Father God for life and justice.
The producers of Hear from Heaven and I pray this film will provoke abolitionists, who will seek God for what part to play to end the injustice of abortion in our time. Pray along with us … then do what the Father tells you.
Christina Marie Bennett, who writes at chrismarie.com, believes conversations can change culture. After graduating college with a degree in Business Communications, she spent two years as a voice in prayer for those who were without one—working with Justice House of Prayer D.C. and Bound4LIFE in Washington, D.C., and later leading the Bound4LIFE Atlanta chapter while serving at IHOP ATL. Since then, she has married the love of her life and become a stepmother. She currently works for a nonprofit in New England that serves pregnant women in crisis and their families.
