The Bible Lesson Hillary Clinton Says She’s Taking to Heart
It’s a lesson Christians are supposed to live by—even politicians in the spotlight.
“Bless those who persecute you: bless and do not curse,” reads a portion of Romans 12, the chapter of the Bible Democrat Hillary Clinton says she will “take to heart.”
“It takes a village, it takes a community, it takes a congregation to empower us to do our part,” Clinton said at the anniversary celebration of Foundry United Methodist Church.
“The apostle Paul is pretty clear that we can’t just celebrate our gifts—we have to use them, especially in the service of others and in the service of a better, fairer and more peaceful world. We should be, in Paul’s words, generous and diligent and cheerful in our service. That’s how we honor God, who gave us these gifts in the first place,” Clinton continued.
The politician told crowds she’s especially going to apply it to the press.
Clinton’s Methodist roots have shaped her politics, causing her to be focused on social justice. Charisma News previously reported how Clinton has a daily habit of praying for “discernment, for wisdom, for strength and courage.”
Clinton has come under fire during her campaign for everything from using a personal email (and then erasing the server) while being secretary of state, to comparing pro-life candidates to terrorists.
But while the political process forges on ahead of the primaries, Clinton maintains she will live by Paul’s advice:
“Repay no one evil for evil. Commend what is honest in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as it depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘Vengeance is Mine. I will repay,’ says the Lord.
“Therefore ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so you will heap coals of fire on his head.’ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Rom. 12:17-21).
